Shrimp and baseball..

I met the author Bruce Hale at dinner last night. He writes for the younger audience, and has a gorgeous wife whose photograph he proudly displayed. I have always said, and still do – There is nothing sexier than a man who is madly in love with his wife, and talks about it.

Another great presentation by Hallie Ephron today, this one on point-of-view. I have no idea what sort of writer she is, but if she writes as well as she teaches, I’m in. Yes, she is one of those Ephrons.

I have met some lovely people here, and exchanged cards, like you do. I had breakfast this morning with a lovely German couple who live here in Canada; there are so many nice people in the world, I love that.

I missed lunch, as it just wasn’t worth standing in the long line to get the food they had – great conference, not so great food; but the fruit was good. Tonight I was going downstairs to the Book Fair and do some shopping – you know me, but I came to my room and the Red Sox are playing and the big dress-up banquet is not until seven! I turned on the t.v. and ordered room service. You have to make choices in this life… I will go down for the banquet – I mean I must – I bought a new outfit, and I have my Paris shoes with me.

Looking out the window briefly today I did notice the rain has cleared a bit; not that it needs do so on my account! Jmb has called and she and her best accessory are coming to pick me up tomorrow for some sight seeing and dinner. I promise to take photographs, only for you people – I hate looking like a tourist. Wow the Red Sox are tearing up the field!
A grand slam in the first inning! Of course with the Sox, that just makes you nervous that they will blow the lead…

I’m tired, but in a good way. Now for baseball, then networking…

Ciao.

This sounds like just the best conference and who knew! I had never heard of it until you said you were coming. The Vancouver International Writers Festival yes, the Surrey one no, even though they are associated.
See you tomorrow.

I still can't quite get used to the idea of this other Surrey ... living in what must I suppose be the original (English) one myself. Though ours is a county of course, not a town.

Then to find that you're watching American baseball, instead of the Rugby World Cup! England trounced at the very winning post by Sth Africa last night - you could hear the roar of pain and outrage all over England over the try that was disallowed....

But back to the Conference. Which sounds so interesting - I'd habve loved to hear what the speaker yesterday had to say about Points of View...? I take it she was talking about authorial points of view? A subject close to my own heart at present - I think I'll and go and see if there are any Conference notes online....

And did you put on the Princess coat and the Paris shoes, and attend the banquet (go to the ball) after all?

Well it can't be said I mess about - have been to Amazon and bought the book "How to write your mystery novel - Knock-em dead with Style"! Not precisely my genre, but who cares? I'm sure teach me.

Meanwhile, enjoy your sight-seeing day, won't you...

Sorry about omissions. The text does dance about so, in these comment boxes!

What I should have said was "I'm sure she'll have something useful to teach me".

Glad to hear you're having such a great time of it -- both in the conference, the networking and the change of scenery! Eager to hear more.

Sounds terrific. How very enterprising you are. If you're paying for yourself you shouldn't be - there ought to be a blog travelling bursary scheme. Have fun!

How was the banquet, lady m, with the 'Paris' shoes?

Can't wait to hear - although all the talk of the cold is making me shiver....

Baseball? and I thought you were Scottish!

Of course you had to go down for the banquet, Lady M! I'm quite put off by men who talk about their wives myself....

The banquet was lovely, very entertaining, and my 'lucky' shoes worked well...

The cold was brilliant! I am trying hard to pocket the memory so I can pull it out when I need it.

thank you for coming by.

I really think it was the best conference. I'm so glad it was my first, now I have a measure by which to judge others.
