Every minute ...

After our day yesterday of highs and lows I was allowed to finish my day on a high note. I managed to read most of my daily blogs last night before giving in to exhaustion and over on Sicily Scene I found this for me! Thank you very much Welshcakes! I am honored and will try my best to continue to deserve your accolades. I get to nominate five, oh goody.

Dulwichmum, who not only makes me laugh but answers her own comments regularly and leaves gems on the blogs of others.

Rilly Super, another hilarious blog. She may well be one of the great satirists of the blogsphere. She answers her own readers and leaves laughs on the blogs of others.

the good woman, who in spite of changing continents finds time to answer her comments and leave them for other bloggers.

i beatrice entertains us all with her ongoing story. She answers the comments of her fans and leaves thoughtful comments on the blogs she visits.

M&M,
you never know what you will find there, but it will be entertaining. She gives as good as she gets when it comes to the comments on her own blog and that of others.

Ta da! Now you five, go forth and nominate. It's like a pyramid scheme yes?

You have to love this – a day or so ago I was walking home through the Medina and trying to take it all in (an impossible task unless you are a superhero) when I saw an older chap squatted back next to the wall with four or five men ranging in age from 16 to 60 gathered ‘round. “Whatever is going on,” I think to myself and slide myself over for a closer view. The old man had three cards on the ground and was playing the age-old sucker game - Three Card Monty!

Then this morning as I am reading my morning papers I see this “Saudis Considers Upgraded Relations With Iraq” in the International Herald Tribune. Apparently after the U.S. promised to hand over billions of dollars in advanced weapons to Saudi Arabia over the next ten years, the news was received with much joy and no understanding whatsoever that there was any kind of quid pro quo involved. The New York Times reports Rice, the U.S. Secretary of State went to Saudi Arabia and asks if they would tighten their borders to keep their citizens from going to join the fight in Iraq. They said no. She asked that they prevent their citizens from using the pipeline that goes through Damascus and dumps fighters in Iraq. They said no. She asked if they would attend the conference the U.S. is sponsoring with Israel. They said, maybe. The aids on Rice’s plane home said, “We interpret this as positive.”

Really after these two instances all I can think of are P. T. Barnum’s prophetic words – “There’s a sucker born every minute.”

part II coming later today. Ciao.

I'm honoured to receive that award from you Lady M, and thank you very much. I fear that I'm always the weak link in such schemes though - I mean, I can't even get my link list right, so how should I ever be able to collect and post a badge?

(And the only people I know are the ones you have nominated anyway..)

I do hope the whole thing won't break down for want of proper participation on my part! I'd hate to think I'd ruined anything.

Nicely done!

As for the U.S. foreign relations fiascoes, these are the days when I can't wish November 2008 to arrive any sooner...there can only be a better days ahead 'cause it can't get any worse.

thank you dear. yes I am counting on you to change out the party in the White House please as it gets a bit tiring saying, "Yes but a majority of the American people don't agree with the present foreign policy."

thank you for coming by.

I agree with you totally! I answer all my comments , of course as I think it rude to do otherwise, but I think I fall short of the witty quips I see left on my own and the blogs of others. I have found it to be true that there are SO many talented people in the blog world who have much of value to say. It gives me hope for humans in general...

thank you for coming by.

Gosh thanks Lady M. My posting record has disintegrated badly, but its good to know that comments are appreciated! International politics are truly amazing - sometimes makes me wonder why I still bother with novels!?

Lovely friend, congratulations on the super award. I can't tell you how deslighted I was to receive one from you also, I so love your blog. I have been playing with how to load it up for so long that I have decided I must be suffering from some type of dimentia. I just can't seem to get awards to load up or work! I hope you did not think I was rude for not getting back to you sooner. Thank you so much.
