the story of M.C. Solaar

M.C. Solaar was born on the streets of Fez becoming an orphan when he was only a few weeks old. He wandered the streets for a bit but it was cold and dark, and he was hungry. He thought he saw a light in a window of a building, for some reason he knew where that light was beaming was his future. He went into the building, and not having any opposable thumbs, he waited out side the door until someone opened it. He walked into the apartment and saw the Jane (the religion, not the girl) sitting on the couch. He made a beeline for the chap as that was most likely the safest lap in all of Fez for an abandoned kitten. Then he found the girl. She was in the apartment as well. She was kind like the Jane, but she was practical as well and in need of a pet best-friend. She gave him a bath, put him in a basket and brought him on the train to Rabat. His house in Rabat also has the girl's mother who is a real sucker when it comes to cute kittens. Once the girl had him cleaned up she set about to get rid of the ringworm on his face and neck and all the worms infesting his little body. In a few weeks he was a beautiful, fluffy, well-fed, happy, leaping cat. Then he went to the vet to have his neuter-job done so he could go to America and get his green card. He had all his shots, and had a passport, he was ready.

But then it went all wrong like sometimes happens. He was very ill with a fever and he hurt in all the wrong places. Once again the girl bathed him, fed him special food, and stayed up with him when he was afraid. She took him back, and back again to the vet until they got it right. She spent HOURS with him in her lap as she searched the Internet for answers, and spent more time on the floor feeding him water and yogurt through a syringe. Thanks to the girl known in blogworld as Q, once again he is a fluffy, beautiful, clean, leaping cat.

At last the saga of MC Solaar, who is so gorgeous in the first photo with his big eyes and huge ears.
Such devotion by Q deserved to be rewarded and it was.
Now that it's all over, such relief, on everyone's part, including MC Solaar.

Such a sweet cat! One of ours was a street orphan like that. My daughter found him wandering bleeding on the streets of Cambridge on her last day there, and brought him home. Such a tough little thing to have survived at all - so we called him Rocky.

Alas though, he had survived the street cats of Cambridge but he didn't survive the cars on ours! He was still a pretty kitten when the car winged and killed him one night. It was February and his little body was frozen when my husband found him and brought him home...

I mourned for that cat a long time - and all our subsequent cats were called Rocky for a while...

I do worry just a little about MC in New York though. I mean - will he be able to go out and scavenge about and do all the sorts of things that cats do when they're away from you?

I often think what fun it would be to strap a tiny camera somewhere to our cat's person, and film all the places he goes and the things he does, at nights.

Well, I've never had outside cats, and he's not an outside cat here, so I don't think he'll miss it. I mean, we don't allow dogs to roam about and they seem to do OK. I'll probably take him up on the roof on his leash or something occasionally.

They put those sorts of cameras on sharks and tigers and such, so it must be possible.

we were very worried there for a bit, but very happy now that he is driving us nuts again.

thank you for coming by.

Indeed, relief is the word! He is running and leaping and getting into the laundry and demanding his food again. It's brilliant.

oh dear what a sad tale. we have only ever had house cats, and as the other cat is a ragdoll these boys won't be going out! albeit the camera idea is a hoot.

thank you for your comments, and thank you for coming by.

i enjoy cats to a certain extent, but i do not liek them eating my birds. they can be so cute, yet so savage.

Just had to add this - that MC resembles all the pretty cats I have fallen in love with, and tried briefly to nurture, in Athens, Corfu, and Tuscany. Thin white cats with hints of tortoise-shell and black...it must be a Mediterranean breed.

We don't have cats like that in England. We have chubby blacks, and tabbies and gingers... Our present cat is a ginger tom, extremely chubby. He's called Katoomba, and decided to move in with us twelve years ago from a house two or three doors down the road.

Several of our cats have arrived like that. It's my belief that when they are nursing kittens, their mothers say this to cats: "Find yourself a good human, and refuse to budge."

Excellent advice for a cat, don't you think?

And yes yes, I know - Katoomba is not a cat name, but the name of a pretty town in New South Wales, Australia! There's a good reason why our ginger cat is named for a town in NSW, Oz of course - but I won't subject you to it here!

One could go on writing about cats for simply ages, don't you find....?

(Perhaps I'd get more readers if I tried a cat blog, instead of an unwieldy great monster of a novel!)

what a great cat tale! I definitely think cats choose their owners without doubt.

I like the cat's name, Katoomba.

you have to be a "cat person" and not everyone is are they? they can be savage, MC has proven his worth in the great roach hunt, and Q feeds him raw chicken which he drags on the (clorox-ed before and after) floor as he GROWLS at it! there is African tiger blood there!

thank you for coming by.

MC Solaar is such a lucky boy. I think cats saved from the elements always turn out to be the best cats of all. Well done, Q!

MC is lucky to have such great caregivers. We were hiking this past weekend in an open preserve area and when we returned to our open top Jeep Wrangler, an MC look alike was sleeping in the driver's seat. Perhaps his long lost American cousin??
